Solve : Need HDD for old computer? |
|
Answer» I have just gotten an old Dell workstation 670. It came with a 36 gig 10k 68P seagate. That HDD has been removed. I was wondering if this system can have a non SCSI drive installed in it. All the SCSI drives I can find are small and expensive. I don't need a ton of storage3-500 gig will do all I need. Is there an adapter or something I can use? Integrated Serial ATA/150 w Edit: on eBay drives from 20 to 60 GB SATA SELL for under $60, new, shipping about $10 or less. That looks like a machine worth keeping. It can run 64 BIT XP ProThanks for all the info. I found 2 SATA ports on the mother board. Helps to have build schematic inside the system. 3 more questions. I saw a hard drive at the dell site that said SATA 600. Is it the same or should I look for regular SATA? Can I unhook the 4 drop SCSI cable from the motherboard if I go to SATA? I have seen XP 64 bit full version on line, but it says an operating system is required?? If I installing an operating system what do I need one for.Quote from: wallerus on June 23, 2011, 01:24:06 PM Thanks for all the info. I found 2 SATA ports on the mother board. Don't want all the Dell stuff with it. Got a copy for my home machine I love running just plain windows, but it is 32 bit and I want to run 64 on this one. Just trying to make sure I do it right. I don't do pirate. |
