Solve : Need help! Please!?

Answer»

So I COME back from soccer practice two hours after I left, and when I get back my computer freezes and shuts down.

So when I try to turn it back on, my hard drive makes this repetitive clicking noise and i hear something as if it's shutting down (or a noise similar to that). And my computer screen reads "Disk Boot Failure. Insert systm disk and try again"

I'm USING a built computer (my brother built it), and it was running on (before I had the problem) VISTA, 1 GIG of ram, and 160 gig hard drive from western digital.

I don't even have clue what's going on, all i know is that the hard drive makes this repittive clicking noise and it's driving me nuts.

Thansk for all the help!it sounds like your harddrive died. you will need to purchase a new harddrive.STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY.

If your data is important you now have what's known as the clik of Death...the HDD is failing.

Best bet for retrieving anything is to hook it up as a slave drive in another working machine and try and copy the data to another drive.

Don't try to burn it to CD/DVD as this takes alot longer and you may only get one shot at it.How do I get my data out of there?Like I said, I'm reallybad with computers.
So can you take it step by step on how to get my computer functioning again (simplest as possible), and how I can retrieve my data out of there.

Thank you so MUCH!Step one: Get a New Hard DriveQuote from: i33nji on August 25, 2008, 09:56:02 PM

How do I get my data out of there?
Do you have another computer?yes i do, i'm using my mom's computer right nowI would suggest removing the hard drive out of the broken computer and hooking it up as a Slave on the working computer.
This way you can back up your files.

Start with your personal data and work, (like My Documents).
This may be your last chance accessing the data.Suggested in Reply #2..... well what's a slave drive???A slave drive would be your existing hard drive . When you install a new hard drive in your computer it is going to be called the master your existing hard drive then will be your slave.
