Answer» Hello. I have aCompaq Presario 6000 that was given to me. When I got it, it had been completely dumped. I have reinstalled everything with the exception of the speakers, which came with the computer. When I go to the control panel and go to Sounds and Audio and to the audio, it shows no audio device. I have no disk to install it and I have no idea what to install from the list. They are Compaq speakers model SP08A11 and on the front of them they show JBL Platinum Series....
Can anyone help???
I am usually pretty good at figuring this kind of thing out, but after about 9 and a half hours, I give up!hi welcome to ch. Do you have a real sound card or is it on board soundThanks!! I believe it has a sound card. How do I know for sure? Select your laptop model, and Windows version HERE Your sound card driver is there.Okay. I went there. I downloaded what it said to for the model I have. Now, when I go to the control panel, it still shows no audio device. What am I missing? If I go to add hardware, I don't see the audio device. Any other suggestions?did you install it or just downloaded it Lol. I downloaded it. Okay. Let's try this again. Thanks!NOTHING is listed, under "Sound, video, and game controllers" in Device Manager? No, it's all gray. I can't access anything. Also, when I went to the link, and I did the download, now I can't install it...maybe I am not doing it correctly? What is gray? When I go to the control panel and I go to Sounds speech and audio devices, and then click on sounds and audio devices..it shows No Audio Device and the Device volume and Speaker SETTINGS are grayed out...I can't use them.is this a desk top or laptopI think I found a solution to your problem. click start the run and type services scroll down til you see windows audio then right click on that then click on properties select auto then click on start and click okay post back the results I got this directly from compaq website. It is a desktop. I did that too. It lets me do that, but that's as far as I get. I can now go to the windows media center and go to the MUSIC and it plays, I just can't hear it. When I go back into the control panel...same thing...no Audio Device. And, how in the world do I know which driver is correct one for these speakers???
I am totally at a loss on this one. It is now 2:30 AM and I am done with it for tonight, but will jump on here first thing tomorrow, so if anyone has any suggestions AT All...Please let me know.
Thanks Brett for looking that up for me! have a good night. There are two possibilities, in my opinion. 1. Since it's used computer, possibly SOMEONE had real sound card, and removed it. Go to BIOS, and check for disabled on-board audio. 2. On-board sound chip is shot. If it was driver issue, audio should be still present in Device Manager.
