Solve : Need help with bios/hd cant boot up?

Answer»

I have a problem, i got another computer yesterday, fully assembled, i booted it up it starts fine... I took out my dvd r and my old hd and put in the new one, sometimes it will read both roms and both hd sometimes not, ever since i put the new hardware in, it wont boot to windows, it asks if i want safe mode, normally, or configure last CORRECT settings or something like that... So then i tried booting it up with my old hd that still works and has xp on it.... same thing when it actually proceeds to boot up windows, it goes to a BLUE screen with some writing on it for about a half second (too fast to read what it is, pretty sure its NOT scandisk) then it reboots. So then i put both hd's in my old computer it starts windows fine.... Only thing else i did was move some pics and a few programs to the new hd. I DIDNT change anything in bios, i even tried to go back to default. I cant start in command or safe mode or regular, it just reboots after it shows the blue screen. Tried with both hds on the new computer... All the help is appreciated...
Running virus scan, etc. on new hd but i doubt the hd is the problemPutting a hard drive loaded with Windows in a new machine with totally different hardware seldom works well. What about reformatting the drive and reinstalling Windows with the current hardware?

Some people have been able to get this to work with a lot of tinkering if they know what they're doing, but it will be less time and misery to just do it the right way.Well i wasnt trying to boot up windows from my old system at first, i was just trying to have both hds in and was using the same hd for the new comp to load up windows, i started it just fine before i added the other hd and dvdr. But yeah im just going to reformat and reload windows and hopefully itll boot up, thanks... and i didnt make a backup of my old hd before moving it and i didnt scan for viruses on the new hd and guess what ? 451 viruses, not including spyware lol... so LONG for my stuff, next time i wont be such an idiot. You can COMPLETELY fry your motherboard by booting to a hard dive with Windows installed for a different system.

Don't know how you added the additional drives. Where you plugged them in on the cables... jumper settings... Did you replace the original optical drive with another? Uninstall old one first? Check in the BIOS to make sure the devices are being detected correctly? (sometimes you have to hit a button to autodetect drives)  Set boot order properly in the BIOS?

For gosh sakes!!! Download AVG Anti-Virus, it's free, it works. Maybe SpywareBlaster from www.javacoolsoftware.com as well. (also free)
