Solve : Need new video card & more RAM?

Answer»

That's all fine and good...
However how many USERS do you see stroll thru here who even know what MBoard is in their system ? ?

I'm not engaging in a battle of wits with you today. Quote from: 2x3i5x on June 01, 2009, 04:33:13 PM

for a third opinion, TRY the computer memory scanner at  www.4AllMemory.com and see what it says and compare to other two.

I would think if three opinions are saying same THING that you'd be safe to go with what they tell you unless the three are using the same scanner to do their job.
That scanner won't work for me but I looked up HP 873n, it says 2GB.

So that, crucial.com, kingston.com, and memorystock.com all say my max is 2GB.  patio, that's all fine and good. no argument intended and so LIFE goes on.

tara. if it says 2 GB is fine with your pc then you can do it but 1gb should be enough for windows xp like broni said.  I can only afford 1 GB right now since I have to get a VIDEO card too.

I'm hoping 1.5GB will be good enough for the Sims 3. Quote from: tara on June 01, 2009, 06:05:38 PM

yeah 1.5 gb is definitely enough for the sims 3.My RAM hasn't come yet but I just installed the Sapphire x1650 pro video card.

It installed fine.

Is this right?
that looks ok to me. wondering, where did you install the ATI card drivers from? (cd coming with the card or thru the downloaded installer off of the internet?)

does computer display look ok? and if you already have the sims 3, go ahead and test it out to see how it goes, though I'm expecting it'll be fine  Quote from: 2x3i5x on June 04, 2009, 08:15:26 PM

I installed them from the net.

My display looks fine.

I'm not installing the Sims until I add more RAM. It should arrive from newegg this week. Quote from: tara on June 04, 2009, 08:23:25 PM

by the way, you may want to go to www.canyourunit.com/. It's a website that can analyze your pc against the minimum specs of any game that you are interested in that they have in their drop down box list. That way, you can see how well your pc can handle the game

I find that their website works best with internet explorer, but that's just me. Pretty handy if you're curious how your pc will do with games you want and whether or not it can run it.

Yep I know all about that site. That's how I found out I needed a new video card.  Quote from: tara on June 04, 2009, 08:54:44 PM

Anyway, you can install the Sims now if you want to, if you meet the minimum requirements and then you don't have to wait and you can just play it when your new ram stick(s) join the party in your pc. LOL  Update!

I installed the Sims 3 a couple of days ago and it runs just fine!

I also bought another 1GB of RAM because I love how much faster my pc is with 1.5. Now I'll have 2GB.

Thanks for all your help guys!  great that it works just fine! Sims is not a really graphics intensive / memory intensive game by all means.
