Solve : Need to Format Disk Drive !?

Answer»

For some strange reason my external HARD drive is now being asked to be formatted even though it has been working fine.
It is a WD My Book Essential 2TB.
Any ideas how to get AROUND this?
when I used Disk manager it says it is unallocated.
ThanksIf no important data is on it, you can format it. BUT if you have any important data on it that you dont want lost then you will have to use a data recovery tool like GetDataBack NTFS for example. The fact that disk management reports it as unallocated means it cannot FIND a format structure on the drive. The drive, the mbr, or the formatting may be corrupt - or the drive may be dying. Regardless, Dave's advice is right on target - do what you need to do to try to access and save any important data - then try to REFORMAT (you can also try the drive on a different system first just to make sure it isn't a problem with the one SPECIFIC computer, though it probably isn't).
