Solve : Need to replace motherboard? |
|
Answer» I have a gateway laptop that is about 3 1/2 years old. It is to the point now where nothing happens when the computer turns on. I had a friend look at it and he said I NEED to replace the motherboard. I am not really sure what I need to put in to get the right motherboard or what I need to do. Any help would be great. What model is it? I am not really sure what I need to put in to get the right motherboard or what I need to doYou could try taking it to a well known computer shop and ask for an estimate and compare or invest on another brand new one. Or you could just tell what happens in details before so the experts here may SCREEN the problem. 1. Quote What model is it?3. When powering on, does it LIGHTS up first or completely nothing?Well certainly there can occur such devastation as to destroy a motherboard. However i would investigate the "cause" more in depth beyond the "Friend" advice (unless they are known to posses the adequate knowledge/skills to render a credible diagnostic). Others may disagree but in all my years of restoring computers i have yet to encounter one that required a motherboard replacement. A more in depth statement about what it's current state is and how it seems to have gotten to that state might help us to point in an alternative area. If eventually you do determine it is really the MOBO then you might want to CONSIDER replacing the computer itself if the price DIFFERENTIAL is not too great.truenorth |
