Solve : Neeed help, Gpu and sound card to close?

Answer»

My Gpu keeps overheating as my furthest pci slot for my xfi sound card is to close, there is no air circulation between the cards. There are flexible pci extension cables that would help, I'm just not sure with compatability, I have Asus a8v-vm motherboard, is there anything anyone can suggest to seperate the two cards?
Cheersstart at the problem*
what type of graphics card do you have in that board.
what type of case do you have, number of fans, do you have a "hot" cpu and / or a good heatsink/cpu fan or a stock fan ?

Is modifying your case an option ?.... there are ways to increase air flow and cooling (could you post a pic of your case or link to it?)
I used that same board in a build for my son and it has ~decent~ spacing on the pci slots....I have no heat problems with any ASPECT of my pc other than the graphics card, It's an NVIDIA 7600gt. If i remove the xfi sound card everything runs fine, but with the card installed there is literally 2 inches between the gpu fan and the sound card. it will operate normally fine, its only when it starts to get pushed the temp alarm will go off. Ill try n get a pic posted.
There are no problems with the case, its literally just that the gpu fan cant breath with the sound card (in the furthest Pci slo) smuthering ithttp://img180.imageshack.us/img180/4391/picture001td6.jpg

bad quality i know but best to handGreat reply/ pics, question*
do you still have an extra slot between those two cards (kinda hard to see) ?

if you do, antec makes a fan which fits in between cards. The ONE I have is quite thick and might not fit in your scenario.... (it takes up two slots)...

The 7600gt you have must be screaming (you are a hard gamer!! ) mine is just as close to my BLASTER audiogy se and I have no heat issues ?(1) IDEA> might consider REPLACING the "fan" in that card... that might reduce your heat issues some and probably be a lot quieter than the stock fans on those cards....(2) pain in the *censored* but; you could install a 80mm out-take fan
with a "little" Side Air duct on that panel door ? Take some time and not too much money and might redirect that hot stuff right out the side.

I will check around this morning on some possible alternatives on that slot fan and maybe someone like "Calum" might come by with a good idea* ... You called?
LOL.
honvetops' suggestions are great, as I see it your problem is the heat between the cards and that it just stays there because the fan on the graphics card just pushes air against the sound card.
I'd say any of honvetops' suggestions should work great.
Some bigger pictures might help though, do you have any more?
Especially of the side of the clear case so we can see the case and the cards inside.
