Answer» My internet provider told me that if I wanted to change my IP address I had to purchase a new network card and install that on my computer. However, before I spoke to that guy, another rep from technical support told me that my IP address will change automatically every 2 months.
Now I don't know who is right.
How do I change my IP address? (And just so no one is speculating, nothing illegal is going on here. My husband and I are in ministry but it's a long story why we want our IP address changed).
I apologize if this question is not in the right subject area.
Thanks! What is wrong with the network card you have? A real old model?
I have never heard of an ISP changing your IP address automatically every 2 months. And I won't go into why on earth you would want to (unless you have a pirated version of Windows - LOL), but that just doesn't sound right.
Who is the ISP?
And please disregard the Tracker Pengun.Depending wich isp you have, a new network card will change your ip STRAIGHT away. Some isp will also change your ip from time to time.My ISP is comcast. I don't have any pirated versions of any software on my computer. I just want a new IP address and my ISP told me 2 different stories on how to get one.
It would be cool if the ISP did change my IP in 2 months, but if that isn't the case then I guess I'll have to get a new network card. There's nothing wrong with my current network card, but I was told that's the only way I can manually change my IP was to get a new card.Comcast is not being straight with you. They can assign a new one on their end.
patio. A new NIC will not resolve this. Stay after Comcast, but I'm sure they will want to know why you want to change your IP so often.Comcast uses DHCP. Fixed IP's cost extra. If you want to "force" an IP change, changing the NIC (MAC id) is one way to do it. Another way is to turn off the modem for a few days and hope that a new IP will be assigned.
Why do you want to change your IP?I just got this computer a few months ago, so I just got assigned this IP address. The problem is that this IP address is blocked from a few christian websites, and the only way I can get in to the sites is to use a proxy server. The proxy server takes forever. I even had a few moderators from the websites send me links to help me access it, but this does not help. I've been told that if an IP address got blocked, when they reassign that same IP address, that person's computer can also get blocked.
I don't wanna buy a new network card if this won't solve the problem. I don't need my IP changed every 2 months either (although I wouldn't mind), I just need to get rid of my current IP address.JerseyGirl3578......
Quote The problem is that this IP address is blocked from a few christian websites
Are you absolutely certain it's your IP address THATS being blocked ? It's entirely possible that the Christian websites server has actually blocked your server for some reason ....... That might explain the double TALK you are receiving . I just have to ask , why would any website block your IP address ...unless your views and theirs differ....and of course its their site and they have control over it ......and if that was the case they will just block you again regardless of what your IP address is ..... or ...am I missing something here .
AND ...havent you posted this issue before .... Let us know

No I posted a separate issue and that was about proxy servers.
I have contacted the site administrator and he was gonna check on a few things on his end and get back to me in a few days. But on another website there are days when I can get on and days that I can't. The site administrator are actually friends of ours and I just contact him DIRECTLY when it happens. Sometimes he doesn't UNDERSTAND why it happens either. I thought it had something to do with my IP address.
