Solve : Network Printer Issue?

Answer»

Hi all.

Until recently the network in my house was a wireless one, running through a Linksys WRT54G router. A couple of weeks ago I decided to connect them with cable instead, to improve things. Ever since then I have not been able to print from the other workstations to my printer.

I had no issues when I was just running wireless. My main workstation prints to the printer (HP LaserJet 1100) just fine. The printer is set to share. All the MACHINES in my house are running XP. The printer doesn't even SHOW up on my other workstations when I run the wizard.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Procontec, I SEEM to vaguely remember from some time back when i was setting up a printer share on a network that it is vitally important to do the share instructions from the main user computer in the network. Don't know if this helps or is relevant. Best of the season, truenorthare all the systems on the same workgroup/domain as the main workstation???

It doesn't sound as if they are, until all machines are on the same LAN, they will not see the shared printer...so...setup your network on each machine and use the same workgroup for all...

interesting they all printed fine running wireless...need to think about that one...

Good LuckThanks for the replies ladies and germs.

Well I think it's definitely SOMETHING to do with the way my network is set up, and it won't make matters any easier that my knowledge in this AREA is sketchy at best.

I believe the main user computer is not the one that the printer is connected to, but I'm not sure how to determine which is the main computer. It may be of note that when I run the Add Printer Wizard on the workstation attached to the printer, it doesn't see the printer when I search the network, but it does find it locally.

This may be too much brainpower to ask you guys to devote to this right now, what with visions of sugarplums dancing through our heads and all. Thanks as always.

lol. Procontec, Just a brief respit from all the sugarplum dancers to say that i am very convinced that once you identify the"Server" computer as opposed to the "client" computer and make your printer sharing from that one you will be up and running. goodluck, truenorth
I never knew til today we had sugar plum dancers...see what pleasures of life you have been missing.truenorth
