Answer»

Ok I just built a computer and it worked fine it STARTED then just turned off and never turned on again I need help with this please is it my psu or my CPU ? I mean I know it works but it just turned off btw I have. A 500 watt psu is that enough for an 8 core CPU a ati 7870 gpu and asrock 970 extreme 3 motherboard ? I hope it is but I think that is the problem I will provide full specs if you need them just TELL meMBoard standoffs installed properly ? ?
Thermal paste applied CORRECTLY ? ?
4/6 pin CPU power PLUG in place ? ?Is this a 8 core AMD CPU or a i7 Quad core with hyper threading?
I am running a 500W PSU with a Sapphire HD7870 and a i7-3770, 4 hard drives, an X-Fi titanium PCI-e on a P8Z77-V LX board.

However my two 12V rails are:
12V1 = 16A
12V2 = 17A

This is what is more important, making sure your 12V rail can handle the load placed on it.

A 500W supply might have all it's current output in the 5V rail say at 60A
as P=IV 5x60 = 300W
leaving only 200W for the CPU, Graphics card and other 12V, and 3.3V components.

Also take note a PSU at best is 80% EFFICIENT meaning 20% power output is to be taken off the total. Quote from: Kurtiskain on March 14, 2013, 03:30:36 AM

Ok so I'm new to all this and this is the first time that this has happened to me the power supply I have came with the case so I don't have the box or anything so should I just buy a new power supply ?  Btw the computer started the next day and didnt turn off but I haven't installed windows yetThe PSU should note on it what amperage ratings it has, but the sticker may be on the side you cannot see.

If the issue occurs after booting a game then it is most likely the PSU, PSU's that come with cases are not usually of awesome standard.
