Solve : New Motherboard and Processor?

Answer»

hi and hello,

I currently and a ASUS P4S800D-X Motherboard and a Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz processor. (at least thats what I'm reading off the box)

I want to upgrade my processor to SOMETHING better. I've been slowly upgrading all the hardware in my computer, and I think the processor has GOT to be next.

Can anyone tell me what I can buy? Im looking to spend average price for a processor, whatever that may be."Socket 478 for Intel Pentium 4 / Celeron processors with speeds up to 3.06 GHz+"

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTU0That's an old motherboard, you'll have trouble finding a good CPU for that.
If I were you I'd replace both the motherboard and CPU, but it depends on your budget and your other components.
If you've already upgraded everything else, it's likely you'll need to throw it all out for a new motherboard.
What do you have right now?"What do you have right now?"

ive only upgraded the video card and the network card so far. the video card is a Radeon X1300 AGP slot. Linksys Wireless-N PC adapter.

some stats off the back of the box on the motherboard are

"AGP 8X", 8 UBS 2.0 Ports, a Serial ATA ports, dual-channel DDR400....

Im not sure what this all means. I was told id probably have to replace the motherboard as well if i wanted a new processor. whats the price check on that?If you want a decent new CPU, you will need a new motherboard.
Unfortunately, you will also need a new video card.
Whereabouts are you in the world?
What sort of budget are you working with?
And what do you want this PC for?*sighs* lol figures.

I'm in Ohio, USA.

The computer is for gaming, internet, writing school papers...... lol

budget... right now open. Like i said i want to pay average price for the components. I paid like 130$ for the video card. but as for the others... i dont know how they range. If the PC is for gaming, you'll definitely want a better video card, even if you didn't need one for a new motherboard.
Go to the FAQ section, then Hardware, and check out the GPU FAQ, which covers all but the newest video cards. I'm sick of saying that so I'll update it soon.

I don't know about US prices because I'm in the UK.
A QUICK search on newegg, which seems to be popular over there, reveals around $200 for a good CPU and $140 for a good motherboard.
Those estimates are probably high, and you can always DOWNGRADE a little if you want to spend less.Quote from: Kiitta on May 26, 2007, 01:30:28 PM
