Solve : Newly installed drive is'nt recognized? |
|
Answer» I've installed a second dvd drive and cannot get the puter to recognize it. It's an IDE drive so I had to get a SATA to IDE converter. Everything is connected correctly according to the DIRECTIONS. I made sure all SATA ports are turned on in the bios. Yet, I'm having no luck. Anyone know what I may still need to do??? Keep in mind I'm very much a novice at this whole computer thing!! Quote I've installed a second dvd drive and cannot get the puter to recognize it. It's an IDE drive so I had to get a SATA to IDE converter. Everything is connected correctly according to the directions. I made sure all SATA ports are turned on in the bios. Yet, I'm having no luck. Anyone know what I may still need to do??? Keep in mind I'm very much a novice at this whole computer thing!! why not connect it to your IDE?, or your PC don't have IDE?The computer is brand new and only has SATA ports, thus, the need for the converter... I wish it had an IDE port, I guess everythings going to SATAi never come with this PROBLEM before, but SATA don't have master and slave, so may be the jumper setting. let me know if found any solution for this I'm not sure what you mean by jumper setting. Does that have to do with the little clip ya have to either have in or out of the drive? Right now there is'nt one in it. Allthough the converter info says Master/slave device emulation support. So... I assume it's not an issue. Any thoughts?have you try put it as master , slave or cs? if no jumper don't work, may be with jumpur it work.. Quote have you try put it as master , slave or cs? if no jumper don't work, may be with jumpur it work.. Whoa!! :-? I sure appreciate your help but, I can't follow that.Does this machine have a CDRom drive in it ? ? If so you have IDE connections. Re-check your owner's manual for that board. It has a dvd rom drive. And no, there are no IDE's on the motherboard. Has'nt anyone here come across this type of situation?? Please help someone!!! I don't want to have to pay a tech guy if I'm just OVERLOOKING something fairly simple to solve this problem. What is the computer or motherboard make and model?Dell E521.Been to the web site. do not list a E521Dimension E521. brand new. man, I can't believe how much of a pain this has become. The mother board only has sata connections.(4 of them) 2 for optical 2 for hard drives. I have an older nec dvd-rw drive with IDE connections. bought an IDE to SATA converter, made sure all SATA connections were on in the BIOS. Has anyone else had to/tryed to do this?? Seems like it would be something that some of you out there may have encountered. Am I totally missing something? If they make a converter for this purpose, I assume theres a resonable explaination for why my computer is'nt recognizing it. I would contact Dell if it's brand new especially. |
