Do you have a spare keyboard and mouse lying around? Make SURE they are not USB.

Tried a new drive, keyboard and mouse, no luck.
Sometimes people overlook the simple things, were they PS2, you didn't exactly say so.Mouse and keyboard are both PS2, Tried a different board , nothing. I unplugged the mouse and same thing. It just goes to the HP screen and freezes. Keyboard also freezes, no caps lock ornum lock lights come on. During initial start, I can turn both on and off, but then nothing. So,if you tried another board and by that you MEAN motherboard...

Are you still using the same graphics card ?

Did your Power Supply Unit/PSU accidentally get changed to the wrong
power SETTING for your area ? Like 110/220Volt this is normally easy
to locate.PSU is fine. I was talking about the keyboard earlier. Could it be the processor ?
I thought it should still boot though.
If it was the motherboard, the fans wouldn't run or even come up to the HP screen ?

To clarify, sound and video are integrated on the motherboard. Like I stated earlier,
she never did any upgrades, it's as is when she purchased it. She's never had any problems until this.Quote

Not neccessarily...Thanks for the reply, maybe it's the MB after all. I've tried just about everything ELSE, except the $40 phone call to HP. Again, thanks to all, for all the help in trying to resolve this issue. I'm too stubbborn to give up though. How, if any one knows, can I check to see if it's definitely the motherboard?
I downloaded a BIOS update from HP, ran it, still nothing.Actually...

Have you tried a blank, partitioned and formatted HDD?

Then try to run the WIndows installation CD?yes, it reads the cd drive, but does nothing after that. Will it boot with linux.

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadThanks, but I really don't want to go there. I'm looking into a Motherboard now. We'll see what happens. I'll let you guys know.
Thatnks to all, appreciate it.
