Solve : "No Boot Device Detected. System Halted"?

Answer»

I should have known this day was going entirely too well.

I came in to the back room and turned on my Dell Dimension

4400. When I came back into the room, I looked at it. The

screen was black and there was a message that said:

No Boot Device Detected. System Halted.

I tried rebooting a couple times and the message appeared

again. And again. I am thoroughly stumped. And very upset!

Here's my INFO...

Dell Dimension 4400
768 MB RAM
80 GB WD CAVIAR HDD (this is a new hard drive as of 12/05)
1.7 GHz P4 processor

Could it be my (new) hard drive... or (SHUDDER) the motherboard?

(A.S.N.E.R.T.)Is the hard drive listed in the BIOS (F2 at boot time)? Thanks for the reply, GX1_Man, but I haven't the foggiest idea. I cannot get into the BIOS. I've tried many times. I hit the F8 repeatedly (how to get into the BIOS on this machine) and nothing happens. The only thing that will come up is that message... No Boot Device Detected. System Halted.

It does not beep at all either. :-/I told you above. F2 when you see the Dell logo, before you see the Windows logo.I have had that problem before ( I have a dell dimension 4600 ) it turned out to be that the BIOS battery had died, you could try and replace it and see.
