Solve : No connection to monitor (Already checked your thread about it)?

Answer»

So, 2 days ago, my girlfriend and I moved into our own apartment. The night before we moved, I was using my computer and everything was fine. The next day, I took it all down and packed it up like I've done many times before. I put the TOWER on the floor of the back seat of my car. Last night, I attempted to set everything up in the new place, but I wasn't getting a picture on my monitor; the light was staying orange.

I tried everything, including: Using the VGA cable on another device (worked), replacing the DCIM-to-VGA CONVERTER (didn't HELP), switching back to my old video card (still no signal), using my monitor on her laptop (works fine), and nothing has helped at all.

I have a Dell XPS 410 with Win XP. My current video card is a PNY 9800 GT 1024mb.

My only guess is that this is a motherboard problem, and I'm probably going to be better off buying a new computer.

Any opinions? Because I'm stumped.Quote from: ryan.strain on December 24, 2011, 10:18:32 AM

If you put the "tower" (system unit) on the floor of the car with no padding or shock protection, or even on a seat (your post is not clear which) it is possible that something got jolted or shaken loose, so I would very thoroughly carefully and gently examine the inside of the unit to see if anything is even slightly unplugged or unseated, in particular the RAM. Now you know why assembled computers are shipped in large boxes with plenty of polystyrene surrounding them.

Yeah, everything is connected PROPERLY. My computer is almost 6 years old, so I guess its played it course.Quote from: ryan.strain on December 24, 2011, 11:52:52 AM

They weren't cheap, $1913 (without monitor) in September 2006 according to PC Review. You can buy a new Dimension 9200/XPS 410 motherboard for $80 but if you are getting keen on buying a new system, don't let me stand in your way!
