Solve : No power to motherboard?

Answer»

Trying to put my first box together with some older parts. Motherboard is Abit KT7 with Duron 800. Followed the motherboard manual for all the connections. When I HIT the power on switch the CPU fan spins for half a second and stops. No LEDs or nothing. No power supply fan.
Simple mistake? Did I overlook something easy?? Thanks.
take it from ME !! Double check* all your case wires to the mobo !! make sure the positive / negatives are on the right PIN, ram stick in the ram slot? back-tract everything you did, look at the book and visualize the the power switch wire / led wire double check the neg /pos PLACEMENT...

The mobo book shows the Pin 1 for each of the case connections. The small case connectors didn't indicate anything on the connector aside from a G ((or ground???)) is this the negative?Yes G is negative...in most cases the white wire is usually the hot one but it's not cut in stone...i've seen some strange color schemes when it comes to case wiring.Quote from: PATIO on May 08, 2007, 02:04:04 PM

Thank you Patio, wasn't 100 % sure here!Um... sounds like your PSU is dead/dying.

Do you have another PSU you could try out?

I very recently (2 nights ago) had a problem which sounds similar to yours where the fans would spin when i pressed the power button, for a short time, then the system would switch off. I changed PSU's with a SPARE I had and it sorted it.Hmmm, could be...

defective motherboard / power supply / improperly seated CPU / short-to-ground
