Solve : no sound after hibernation?

Answer»

hey guys, I've been having a problem with my sound for the past 3 or 4 days. i was watching videos on youtube, left the computer, came back and the sound just stopped working. i believe this was after it came back from hibernation. i have it automatically set to hibernate after a certain period of time when I'm running just off my battery. I'm running windows 7 64bit on a lenovo thinkpad e520.

anyway, ill go through a list of what I've done so far.
-I've RESTARTED multiple times.
-went to task manager, installed sound drivers and restarted my laptop. the new drivers didn't seem to fix it.
-downloaded new drivers and installed them manually
-checked if the system was in mute in the system tray and in advanced audio options
-I've done a consistency check on my hard drive
-Ive done a system files check(sfc /scannow)
-done the sound check wizard
-i even tried hitting it. didn't help.. lol

sometimes i get little blips of sound, but its becoming more and more uncommon. usually, if it does decide to make sound, it's the beeping sound from coming back from hibernate. that's pretty much the full extent to it. before the sound stopped working it was really distorted sounding. i FORGOT to mention that this laptop isn't even 6 months old.

thanks to anyone who's willing to help with this crazy puzzle
-IanWhat is your sound chipset?i just did a check disc again and ticked off both boxes and let it do its thing. when i tried to do it the first time, nothing really happened. i got my sound back. its better than before. the beep sound (when i plug it in and out) changed to something higher a couple months after i had it. all back to new. sorry for solving my own problem like this... i appreciate the help.

What is your sound chipset?

i guess i spoke too soon. just after i put it into hibernation and came back the sound died again. my sound chipset is an intel 6 SERIES/c200 series hd audio. i should add that my computer did not pass the short SMART test.i have a feeling its just going to get worse from here.Apparently this has been a problem with Conexant Audio for 4 years and they still haven't fixed their drivers. Some programmer on a blog uploaded a simple program that allows you to quickly reset the sound driver without having to reboot your COMP.

I am not sure it will work for you because it is not designed for your specific comp, but I looked up your audio and it said it was Conexant so it might work.Just to make sure, you updated ur drivers to 8.32.27.00. correct?yeah it does use conexant and i have updated my drivers to 8.32.27.0. when i turned my computer on i had sound again. this is a nightmare. i know its just going to disappear again.I think you should turned off hibernation first and just use the sleep mode option just to check on the difference. If it is still under warranty, I would try returning it back. You could also check recommended power or BALANCE settings for your laptop.i went to Intel's site and updated the chipset drivers, not just the conexant audio drivers. so far so good. once the drivers were installed my sound came back consistantly. i've put it into hibernation many times to see if it would mess with it at all. i think i could call this fixed now.
thanks for the help
