Solve : No Sound After Installing New CD W/R Drive?

Answer»

Have a Creative Sound Blaster Card.  Sound was working fine until new CD Drive installed.  Running Windows XP.

I did the following:

1. No conflicts in Device Manager.
2. Ran DxDiag and only ERROR message I received is :
Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
3. Creative Diagnostics check out OK.
4. I downloaded the latest drivers for the Sound Card
from the DELL website.
5. Checked Volume Control via Accessories->Entertainment and No Mute boxes are checked.
6. Checked contacts with speakers and computer.
7. Opened computer and made sure Sound Card is seated correctly.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Is the CD plugged into the sound card? Is it ISA or PCI?yes, the CD is connected to the sound card.  I'm sorry, I don't know ISA, PCI info regarding motherboard.  I have a Dell Dimension 4550.  If you tell where to find that info, I will be happy to provide it for you.connect the little two- wire cable> to the motherboard........cd>to mobo>>>>you have over looked it.What he said.

There are only two cables.  The ribbon cable (IDE) connects to the motherboard, the power cable connects to the power supply.
There may be a third, grasshopper. Did it fall off the old one during the transplant? Check your soundblaster to see if it is hanging to it still.

Some newer devices that are all PCI don't require the cable, but I THINK you are better to have one......

Was this a replacement CD drive or did you add a second drive. If so, is there a cable between the sound card and your other drive, whatever it is?Nope, only two.  This is a replacement CD.Update sound drivers for the card you have. Quote

Nope, only two.  This is a replacement CD.

Did it come in a retail box? Or just a bare drive, with not even any screws?Drivers have been downloaded as per item 4 of my original post.Update sound drivers for the motherboard you have?  download sisoft sandra/oe everest to find make of mobo or/type msinfo32 in the runbox.and there is no way that sound is enabled in the setup screen?
