Solve : No sound after opening my pc?

Answer»

Hi,

So I opened my pc up a few days ago to CLEAN it and ever since then theres been no sound, im guessing I must have knocked something out of place, ive since tried making sure that everything is plugged in properly (albeit not knowing what any of it does) and still nothing, as far as I know this is 100% a hardware problem, ive updated my drivers and used different speakers and still nothing.

So if I was going to try and fix it myself, what would I have to try to look for?

SYSTEM specs:

Radeon 9200 all in wonder
Amd athlon 1700
1024mb ram
N-vidia n-force audio
Xp sp 2 running ad-aware, comodo, spybot and windows cleaner constantly.

thanks alot.is your sound onboard, meaning, is the sound plug on your motherboard? or is it a discrete sound card in one of the pci slots? if it's a sound card, check to make sure it's seated properly in the slot.Hi, thanks for the reply, you plug the speakers into this yellow box which is (I think) connected to the mother board. I fiddled around with it a bit and it was sturdy.

hmm...that actually LOOKS like some type of serial or game port...but that seems like a newer mobo so it probably isn't one of those...

also, there is a capacitor in that picture that is partially covered by your thumb. from the angle you took the picture it looks like the top of it is slightly rounded...

check all of your capacitors on your motherboard. they're the little tin-can looking things. they should be flat on the top, if they're rounded, or completely burst open and leaking FLUID, your motherboard is bad. look for that and check back.Checked them all and they seem fine, a few of them are a bit wobbly but I guess thats because of the height of them.

I did find the nvidia logo on my mother board though, its near where the yellow circle is now, I usually plug my speakers into the jack at the top of my pc and the wires from that end near the logo.

Just say if you need any PICTURES

This won't play sounds other than MBoard warning beeps by the way.
