Solve : NO SOUND--although everything APPEARS to be workin?

Okay then. I'm finally BAFFLED enough to ask for help. So... "HEELLLLP!!!"

I get no sounds. Card installed correctly, wires where they're s'posed to be. Speaker icon in taskbar. New Harmon-Kardon speakers, connected and lit.

This is an HP pooter, WIN98 2nd Edition,  ENSONIQ SoundBlaster PCI 64. No conflicts evident.

Any ideas? I've tried everything except this hammer I have hanging on the WALL beside me. It's next!
