Answer» Homebuilt ASUS A8N-E MB, 4 GB RAM, AMD Athlon x2 @ 2.4 GHz, Win 7 Is it possible that the monitor was damaged, too? Yes - but it wasn't. Monitor works fine. And I'm not sure about a power issue - merely speculating. ADDITIONALLY, the computer was plugged into an APC UPS. In checking around, I've found quite a few ASUS MB 1 long 3 short beep issues without resolution. As much as it irritates me to not be able to figure out what is wrong, I can't really complain...I've gotten almost 4 years of trouble free service and easy upgrading from XP to 7 out of this system. A new system isn't all bad - just a PIA! When I get the parts for the new system, I'll try the new PSU and finally eliminate that possibility; but, I've tried two other PSU's without success. BTW, I have always used Antec PSU's but in checking for this build, I read that the Antec "continuous power" PSU's aren't compatible with APC UPS's - do you know anything about that?Quote from: quidnunc on June 17, 2010, 05:29:46 PM ...1. Additionally, the computer was plugged into an APC UPS.1. Should have been OK, but power surges are unpredictable. PROTECTION is usually by MOV's, once they blow you no longer have protection. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surge_protector 2. My old Asus PIII has been rock solid for 10 years in overclock mode. Those beep codes are not normal. 1 short beep is normal. 3. If you've already substituted other psu's with no success, that's not it. 4. Sounds like nonsense to me. |
