Answer» I've got a Gateway 4535GZ notebook, 60GB hd, Pentium M 735 1.7MHz, 333MHz DDR RAM, Windows XP.
Recently the computer has started freezing up when I move it more than just a little bit. It's fine as long as it's sitting on the desk or on my lap. But if I try to move it from desk to LAPTOP, for instance, the SCREEN and curser freeze, and I'm forced to restart with the POWER button.
I'm not sure exactly what caused the problem... my cat jumped on it. But not a big jump. The impact would have been much less than a medium-hard drop onto the table.
I've checked the power cord connection at the notebook and outlet. I've tried with no power cord just battery. And it still freezes. A store technician suggested my hard drive might be bad... so I purchased a new drive and installed that last night. After the computer booted up, I moved it around and thought the problem was solved... for a moment. It took a little more jiggling but the darn thing froze up again.
Is there any thing else I can check?
I've though about the battery. There seems to be some looseness to it, it doesn't fit completely tightly. But I'd never really examined it before so I can't say for sure whether anything's changed. Could a loose battery connection CAUSE the screen to freeze if the AC power supply is connected?
Anything else I can check before sending this thing to the computer shop?
THANKS!Could be the motherboard shorting out on the case. I suggest sending it to the shop. THere are very few user servicable parts on a laptop.
