Answer» :-? Ok I need some more help I started out with an on off SWITCH that did not work then a bad motherboard. I just bought a barebones system and installed my two cd-roms, floppy drive, memory, modem and hard drive all from my old system. The new system COMES on but will not boot to windows xp! The hard drive is showing properly in BIOS but all I get when I turn the computer on is a window that ask if I want to boot: In Safe Mode Boot To Command Prompt Boot to Network Boot to last known good working version Boot Normally to Window
I have TRIED each of the above and all is does is come bact to that window. What can I do so that I do not loose all the info I have on the Hard Drive. The new system is as follows : Chassis = ATX Linkworld with 430 W PS Processor = AMD Semperon 64 2800 + Socket 754 Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M Chipset = VIA K8M800 chipset - VIA VT8327 chipset Super I/O: ITE IT8705 xchip INTEGRATED peripherials Realtek 8100C Ethernet controller - Realtek ALC655 Audio'97 Codec Memory = DDR400 - 184 pin BIOS = 2M bit flash ROM, Phoenix BIOS
If Windows was set up with different motherboard hardware you will have problems. Some folks have (sometimes) gotten this working with a repair install, but a clean format and reinstall of Windows would have you merrily on your way.

Well for openers , it's not a good idea to hijack someone elses post ........ start a new topic ...... In the mean time you might try installing your HD in another pc as a SLAVE and recover your data that way .
dl65 Johnjohnca,
I lost nothing on the old drive. I set it as the slave and was able to pull all the info off of it.
