Solve : Online Dating Giant eHarmony Required to Create Same Sex Dating Site?

Answer» http://snipr.com/6wpt6

Online dating giant eHarmony is required to create a new online dating site for same sex couples under the terms of a settlement with the State of New Jersey’s Civil Rights Division.

The settlement is the result of a discrimination lawsuit filed by Eric McKinley, who sued eHarmony.com for discrimination, because the site did not offer dating services for homosexuals, only for heterosexuals.

Under the the terms of the settlement, eHarmony must create a brand new site catering to gay and lesbian singles, as well as pay $50,000 to the New Jersey attorney general, and $5000 to Eric McKinley.

eHarmony had adamantly denied that they were discriminating - the services they offer are based on many years of research - research which was done based on married heterosexual couples. In fact, under the terms of the settlement, eHarmony is allowed to tell those using their new same-sex matching service - called COMPATIBLE Partners - that their patented Compatibility Matching System™ based entirely on research involving married heterosexual couples.

Said their lead attorney in the case, Theodore Olson, “Even though we believed that the complaint resulted from an unfair characterization of our business, we ultimately decided it was best to settle this case with the Attorney General since litigation outcomes can be unpredictable. eHarmony looks forward to moving beyond this legal dispute, which has been a burden for the company, and continuing to advance its business model of serving individuals by helping them FIND successful, long-term relationships.”
So many paranoid people....

We all have rather similar anatomy inside, there's no real difference, and you cant be obsessed about how wrong or right a unchangeable programming is inside someones brain. This is not about gay vs. straight people. This is about legitimate business being told what it can/can't, should/shouldn't do.
This is ridiculous, because it pushes, what we know as "egalité", beyond some reasonable limit.
If you remember "affirmative action", you should know to what kind of weirdness it lead.what does it matter anyways they cant get married Quote from: computeruler on November 28, 2008, 05:42:06 PM

The things you don't know. what they are going to meet each other and then get all sad cause they cant marry each other than it would be better off if they didnt meet Quote from: computeruler on November 28, 2008, 06:42:55 PM

What would you say if straight people werent allowed to get married?
Say the same thing?

Married or not, its not against US law that you can not be married. Only certain states have this.
And believe me, if they tried to ban it completely, it wouldn't go far. Its against the constitution, and defies equality.

There is such a thing as lifetime relationships as well. Many straight couples choose not to get married, for their own reasons.
I've never understood those online dating services. There are so many people out there if you just TALK to them in person. I'm not saying that everyone who uses those websites are losers, but I wouldn't want to meet somone that way. Why cant they meet somone the the old fashioned way?  The fact that they would use a website for dating would suggest to me that there is something wrong with them. Am I alone in thinking this?

As for eHarmony, I dont see why they should be forced to create a gay site. For example: Lets say I have a company that repairs PCs that run windows. The company's area of expertise lies in the windows based PCs that people bring in for repairs. One day somone brings in a Mac and demands that I repair it. I explain to the customer that I have absolutely no experience with Macs. Then, the customer gets irate and threatens legal action if I dont service their Mac; after I have already explained to them that I have, absoslutely no expeience with those computers.

That may be a bad analogy but, I think it is one that most of our members can, probably, relate to.
I am sure that there is a plethora of gay dating websites out there today. eHarmony (although lame) should not be forced to cater to any one group, if they choose so.I dont think they should be forced to have a gay site either, however, you have to consider:
They could just as easily implement it, but, they have chosen not to.

Who says that the marriage values of heterosexual couples is different from those of homosexual? ...that they dont have the "research" for homosexual couples. Homosexuals are no different from heterosexuals EXCEPT for their *censored* preference. With that last sentence, you cant really say that Homosexuals are Macs, and Heterosexuals are PC's, and make that comparison, since PC's and Mac's are completely different.

Homosexuals think, act, and feel in so many of the WAYS heterosexuals do.

No, I'm not accusing anyone here of being hateful by saying the opposite of what they have said or putting it down. Just stating my opinion. They are invading the planet.........not not the Aliens, the gays, I guess I need to go to Mars.

They are smart too cause they know how to earn out of their *censored* orientations , it was so unfair to the Dating site, its like someone comes and tells me how to run my website and then make me pay for not running it their way!!!!!!!!!!JJ, you have to realize, roughly 60% of the average persons life is online, sometimes more. Technology is destroying the social structure of society as we know it, slowly, but surely. Some people don't know how to pick up a date, sad as that may be, they need someone to find a person for them. If that be the case, let them. Ain't our right to choose what someone does to find a companion. Ain't our right to choose who that companion is either, but those old idiots in congress think it is.

As far as the analogy goes JJ, when I worked at PC city in Roanoke in 2006 for a few months, we had just such an issue. Someone brought in an iMac that wasn't turning on and he threatened legal action if we didn't fix it. Even though none of us knew how to even open the damned thing, let alone diagnose a problem with it.

The point of this being; You just can't please some people, its impossible, once they get over complaining about one thing they COMPLAIN about another. Its a waste of time, resources, and money, but trying to convince them of that is about like trying to convince the world to spin backwards.
