Solve : over half the screen is white????

Answer»

I'm using my Grandfather's 5 to 7 year old laptop and one time I turned it on and two-thirds of the screen (from the bottom up) was covered in white. I know all the folders and the start menu is all there because I can move the mouse down behind the white part of the screen and open folders. Nothing else on the computer seems to be broken, but I have turned in on 3 times now and everytime the two-thirds of the screen is taken up with this weird white cover. I have no idea what is WRONG. Help? PLEASE! I am only using this computer because my 4 year old cheap laptop bit the dust and I needed one to get through my senior year of college. Is this white "cover" present from the moment you turn on the laptop?
If yes, the monitor is dead.
It might be possible to repair it but the cost would most LIKELY be more than the laptop is worth.
7 YEARS is pretty old for a laptop.Yes it is white from when I first turn it on.... That is really bad news. Any idea what caused it to die? I will have to EXPLAIN it to my grandpa. This is the second computer to die on me in the last month. Bad.... I don't suppose I can delay buying a new one now. Unless you've hit it, dropped it or in other ways handled the laptop in ways it wasn't intended to I would say it died of natural causes.
Like I said, 7 years is pretty old for a laptop.
