Solve : "Park an old PC"? |
|
Answer» My friend has an "ancient" desktop computer probably way before Microsoft had an OS. He is moving and remembers that to make sure nothing gets MOVED or ruined internally he had to "park" the computer. He has totally forgotten how to do this. I am not really sure what make or model computer it is. I am not really sure what make or model computer it is. That's really helpful.....He's probably thinking of "parking" the hard drive which needed to be done on older machines. If it's been off for AWHILE this shouldn't be neccessary... If he's careful moving it then it should suffer no ILL effects... However after it lands in it's new home i'd SUGGEST removing the case and re-seating all connections and any addon cards... He may want to do some housekeeping while the case is off with a can of compressed air...hold all cooling fan blades in place with a QTip as the air pressure can damage the fans. Best of Luck.Happened to be looking at this subject with reference to newer hard drives. Shipdisk.exe was a head parking utility used with older hard drives. Have a look at the "transporting" section here... Good luck. |
