Solve : PC Freezing...?

Answer»

Hello. Lately my PC has been freezing. It's been doing this off and on for about 2 weeks now. It typicaly does this when my internet is up. It's always the same scenario... screen freezes, won't respond to keyboard or mouse or even soft-booting via Ctrl-Alt-Del. I've always had to hard boot. I haven't been able to determine what exactly is CAUSING this issue. I've ran virus and spyware sweeps and nothing has turned up. I'm starting to suspect that it might have something to do with a wirless adapter I installed about a month ago. It's a Hawking HWUG1 Wireless USB Adapter. It's had nothing but rave reviews. However I've had problems with it from day 1. First of all, during installation Windows would not recognize the driver. So I called Hawking's tech support, which told me that was the latest driver and it has been tested to 100% functionality with my OS. (My specs are: OS - XPHomeSP2, Process - AthlonXP, Ram - 1GB) They then instructed me to ignore the prompt and install the driver anyway. So I did. And it works. However, upon attempting to remove the adapter from my USB PORT via Safely Remove Hardware, (As I normaly do, when I'm getting READY to shut off my PC) it occasionaly hangs when you click to stop the device before removing it. Sometimes I have been able to close out the window,  and cancel. On other occasions I have had to hard boot. But now my PC is starting to completely freeze up. If anyone can help with this matter I would GREATLY appreciate any assistance or advice. I only have 2 days left before I cannot RETURN this to where I purchased it. What happens, if you connect your computer straight to the modem?
