Solve : PC headache?

Answer»

I replaced the hard drive on my computer and I attempted to install Windows XP home version.

When I placed the XP CD in the drive it prompted me to reformat the hard drive which I did, after the formatting was completed the Windows set-up screen apeared and it started creating set-up files.

The system rebooted itself once this was complete, once the computer reboots it shows my drives on the system and freezes up on the main screen showing my primary master as the hard drive and the the CD as the slave and no secondary's and the cursor does not move from there and that is all she wrote.

Can ANYONE help please?

BobHow much RAM do you have, and what is your hard DISK space?

[glb]Flame[/glb] Tundra....So The new hard drive is listed as the primary master ....thats ok .......but why is the cd -rom not shown as the secondary master ? Did you change the IDE cables ?
Perhaps tell us exactly how many hard drives you have and how many cd drives you have .

I would PROBABLY set it up as ........
Hard drive ( new ) primary master  and if you have a second hard drive .......it would be primary slave .
These would both be on the same primary IDE cable

cd-rom ...would be secondary master .......and
any other dvd or cd drive as secondary slave .
These would be on the secondary IDE cable .

let us know

dl65  dl65,

I have the CD plugged into the IDE cable on the slave
part of the cable and of course the master on the HD.

The HD is a WD 80G and I am running 128MB memory.

Maybe I can change the setting in BIOS to show the CD as the secondary master??

I got the PROBLEM solved.........my COMPUTERS heart is now beating again!!

I had to manually set the cylinders and heads in BIOS for the HD for it to work with my BIOS version.

Everything booted up and I reinstalled the HD software, reformatted and installed my XP

Thank you for all of your help.

Bob
