Answer» I had a PC at home that stopped functioning. There was a problem with the hard drive. My friend gave me a new one. Ofcourse the old one was ancient and the new hard drive was like 10 times more powerfull. During the installation process I disconnected the power cord from the PC inorder to work on it. I also disconnected the power cord from the FLOPPY drive. I connected everything then NOTICED that the light from the floppy drive wouldn't turn on. So I TURNED off the pc, disconnected the power cord (to the PC) then I reconnected the cord to the floppy drive, put the power cord back on and tried to turn on the power. The PC wouldn't turn on. There was no power.
So I ended up buying a PC from my friend. This time I had the new hdd lying around and my friend said that I COULD install two hard drives on my PC. So he gave me the info. I disconnected everything, put the new drive in and turned on the PC. The floppy drive didn't turn on. So I opened it back up and found out that I disconnected the power cord from the floppy. I reconnected it, attempted to turn on the power but nothing happened. I turned everything off disconnected the power from the floppy, reconnected everything else and the power came back.
Could the new hard drive be the cause of the problem? What would cause the power of the PC to go out? Could installing the power to the floppy incorrectly cause the problem? I don't know what I did wrong but I had the same problem with two different PC's. Thanks. The Power Supply Unit may be inadequate to power your system.
If it were two different Power Supply Units the problem most LIKELY lies with you. Does power function properly when you disconnect the extra HDD?can you check the ide cable is on the hard drive correctly...the red stripe is opposite the power feed
