Solve : PC Questions (UPGRADING)?

Answer»

Hello All,

Well, I have a few questions. I'm fixing to be doing a big upgrade. I have a hp pavilion a1130e. Now when I bought it I had been out of the computer would for about a year and a half. I had a pretty nice pc it was great but when I ordered my NEW pc I thought I would be getting something that would at least play the games that I still had. Well, I'm not happy with it at all. I got Star WARS battle front 2 for xmas and have yet to be able to play it. So, when I was looking to up grade my video card all the ones out that I had any intrest in was for 400 watt psu or above. So, I did alot of reading and found out that you can't upgrade the psu in a HP and that it would fry the crappy mobo. So, I'm going to LIST what I bought and what I'm going from.

I bought and have sitting in my floor scared to death to do anything with is.
A Evga Nforce4 sli edition mobo socket 939
A Evga 7800GT
A new atx Case and 600w power supply.
A new copy of windows xp pro.
A gig of ram

OK and I have
A Cheap ASUS 939 mobo
A amd 3500+
A gig of ram
the ram is the same model PC 3200 but 2 diffrent brand names
and a 80gig hard drive

What I want to know is how and if I can use the cpu, ram, and hd from my hp.
And how would I go about getting the old windows xp off and putting the new copy on.
Now I have read that you can't use the same copy of windows on a new mobo that it looks at it as a new computer. Thats why I bought another copy

If i have left out some important details let me know and I will post them

ThanksIt looks like you have enough components to build two comuters...

But to build one good one that works.. I would use your new motherboard, your AMD 3500 socket 939, your RAM.. unless you wanted to go with Dual Channel.. in which you'd have to buy new.. And your old hard drive will work fine as long as you wipe it. But you are correct in that if you have XP Home.. you can't use it if you replace more than 3 components at the same time.

Good LUCK.. and have fun with your new PC.
