Why is this an issue after 2 years?I looks to me like you have a bootable network Card,

If thats the Case all you need to do is change the boot order in your Bios to Boot From HDD First, and Network last

Many Bios's are Different so i we would need more information on your computers hardware in order to helpive done and attached the report if that helps - when it starts up it says press shift & tab to change something (cant remember wot it said) - in this OPTION i can change a setting to 'local only' which stops the scan but doesnt stay saved when i startup again - ive probably made it sound more confusing then it actually is - sorry - any help will be much appriciated

TAT little Bit of information may be helpfull if you post what it actually Says..

My loast too mother boards have been MSI, with Nforce chip Sets. yours have a VIA , but on mine it Boots and Says.

"Press Button Combo to boot From Nvidia Nework BootDevice" i think you have a Via PXE network boot device , and all you need to do is turn it off

You can find all the Details you need in Here

http://us2.msi.com.tw/support/mnu_exe/mbd_mnu/E6741v1.1.ziprite ive read that and got lost - to clarify when it starts up it say "presss shift & tab to enter network boot option" here there are 2 options the first is 'boot protocol' which is set to 'PXE' and can be changed to 'RPL' - the second option is 'boot option' this is set to 'network first, then local' with the other options being 'local First, then Network', 'Local only' & 'According BIOS' when i set it to local only it skips the scan but wont keep this setting as a default. if its left to its own devices it performs the 'scan' where at top of screen it says 'Rhine II Ethernet ADAPTER' with 'P......' with the dots continuing 'scanning'. then if i press esc it says 'network boot cancelled by keystroke' followed below with 'exiting intel PXE ROM' and then it loads up. This 'scan' doesnt affect anything its just something thats grown to irritate me as im impatient ha. i greatly appriciate all the help in solving my dilemma.

matIt is trying to do a PXE network boot. If it can be disabled in the BIOS there is a way to do it. Boot order and exclude the network as a bootable item.. Some machines can't be rid of this however.

After 2 years it really is more of a nuisance than a burning issue. Don't lose sleep over it.
