Have a look here: http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/kpac, I'm an administrator for a phpBB forum. When I first started doing this, spammers would REGISTER and post unwanted stuff in the forum; registration was automatically activated, without any intervention from me. Or, if my facts are not correct here because I've forgotten some details, at least they could register and post a porn website in their initial profile setup - you know, the box where you can enter a website - and that was visible to anyone who clicked on their username. This is a church website and that was absolutely UNACCEPTABLE.

I visited phpBB's website and found a modifcation which put a stop to this. Now, registrants see a screen that tells them to only fill in certain boxes, that the other boxes can be completed once registration is approved, and, if they ignore this, their registration will completely fail (I'll never even see it).

I'm sure the version of phpBB on the site for which I'm an admin is not latest version. kpac, you're an admin on a phpBB forum, aren't you? How does your registration procedure work?Quote from: watersprings77 on October 05, 2008, 12:54:16 PM

In your phpBB admin panel, you have a section titled "User Admin", right? You need to get familiar the features there. That's where you can IMPLEMENT some restrictions and delete users.Quote from: soybean on October 06, 2008, 02:11:24 PM

No, it's SMF, like this forum, but I am the admin. You can choose whether members have to activate their account, if an admin has to approve of it, immediate registration, or just don't let anyone join! You can also choose the complexity of the visual verification image, and the required strength for the member's password.
