Answer» I had left my notebook FMV-Biblo NX70J/T running all night as I sometimes do for DOWNLOADING. I'd put down the screen so that the screen shuts off, but everything else keeps running.
When I woke up today, there was a thin pink vertical line going from the top of the screen to the bottom, to the right of the start button, overlapping everything. Everything except the mouse icon. Also, if part of it passes over a white area (such as on this forum screen) that part is invisible.
When the computer is off, the line is gone. When I restart the computer, the windows xp home boot screen comes up and I see the line. Then when it switches from the boot screen to the LOGON screen, the screen goes BLACK and the line goes away. Then at the logon screen it's back again.
What's happened?! Is this permanent? COuld be a failed video adapter, or overheating. If it has persisted on subsequent boot ups, it may be a sign of serious problems as you cannot cange the video card in a laptop.
Only chance would be to update the video driver from the manufacturer;s website and cross your fingers. Thanks for the input. I just updated the video drivers and restarted, but nothing changed. I also tried reverting my desktop theme back to the original windows, but no dice.
I need to use my computer today, but I will give it a long rest and LET my battery uncharge overnight and see if it takes.I wasn't talking desktop theme. I was referring to resolution. Right CLICK on desktop, Properties, Settings and you should be able to choose between 1024 x 768, or higher. What is it set on now? Can you adjust it higher? Now there is another pink line right alongside the first one. A double line!!!
MY settings are on 1024 by 768 which fits my screen perfectly. THe colour quality is "highest 32 bit" I tried putting the screen resolution on all the different settings, but the lines stay.
No fix from the latest driver, no improvement with resolution, etc. It sounds like a shot video adapter. Bad news from home for a laptop.
