Solve : Pirating question? |
|
Answer» This is a hypothetical SITUATION, meaning not real. The difference between pig [email protected]%T, movies, music and software is pig [email protected]%t can be composted. Are you saying that because "movies, music and software" are "pig [email protected]%T" you want them? And how does that make it free? Last time I checked hog manure cost money, so I don't see how such an analogy would stand. If you can't afford car, that doesn't entitle you to steal it, and don't try to retort with some REAL pig [email protected]%T about how software is any different. Maybe it is, but not according to the law. So although pirates everywhere can try to justify themselves as being in the right by making up excuses about outrageous pricesor how software should be free or how hard it is to find a store that sells it or how important it is that you have that 30k$ 3d modelling program for no reason, it won't make a difference as to the legality of the matter. Given, they seem to be having trouble enforcing it, what with the cowardly nature of pirates everywhere (unlike REAL pirates, who will actually draw their SWORDS and fight a vessel that is set to capture them, software pirates hide on an "island"(country with more lax enforcement) until the sea is clear, and then send out a torrent throughout the sea. Quote from: warpuck on June 26, 2008, 10:41:26 AM Birds of a feather flock together, and now it seems your comparing software to a new car, so which is it? pig [email protected]%T or a car? What is the DCMA?sorry, DMCA (not DCMA), "Digital Millenium Copyright Act"The DCMA is a US law, however the EUCD covers a similar topic in the EU, and the Copyright & Patents Act 1988 in the UK specifically.Oh, for some reason, I thought it was something a bunch of countries agreed to enact. them again, if Britain got it I'm sure we here (your loyal subjects) in Canada would have soon followed, but our copyright laws are fairly weak as far as I can tell. Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 27, 2008, 12:40:21 PM Is Britain under the influence of the DCMA? Don't they have some way of reporting things?Does anyone here understand warpuck, or is it just me? Quote from: kpac on July 13, 2008, 03:28:11 AM Does anyone here understand warpuck, or is it just me? Does it matter? ...I think not.I suppose you're right! I think that all we need to know about pirating is that its BAAAAAAADDDD...... ISNT it?Nice add! Here is part of my canned speech for file sharing programs. It is also important to note that sharing entertainment files and proprietary software infringes the copyright laws in many countries over the world and you are putting yourself at risk of being indicted through ORGANIZATIONS watching over the rights of the authors of such files (i.e. the RIAA for music files, or the MPAA for movie files in the USA) or the authors of the files themselves. |
