Solve : Playing DVD's? |
|
Answer» Okay, so apparently I need a little advice here. Inherited a DVD-ROM drive today (PANASONIC Matshia SR-8586), brand new but naked - no documentation, CD's or anything else. I'm running XP, SP1. Why Service Pack 1? How buggy do you want to go? :-/ Quote From what I can see I need a DVD decoder to play movies from it. But that may be wrong too, because this is my first experience with a DVD drive. If you wish to play DVD movies you indeed need a codec pack or a DVD player. Try WinDVD which is an excellent program and OFTEN given for free with high end brand videocards . Albeit a cut down version. Quote The error message I receive on playback is: Playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. Lowering your screen resolution or color depth may fix the problem. I tried that, with no luck. Are you using standard windows drivers for your videocard? What is your resolution, refresh rate and colour depth? What type of videocard is installed? Quote Why Service Pack 1? How buggy do you want to go? I'm one of those people who ran into some issues with SP2, and SP1 ain't broke, so I never bothered again. It's on my list of things to do. (I knew I was gonna be chastised for that ). Quote Try WinDVD which is an excellent program and often given for free with high end brand videocards As you may recall, I have that smoking GeForce MX4000 card. WinDVD? Ha! Quote Are you using standard windows drivers for your videocard? Nope. Got the latest drivers. Quote What is your resolution, refresh rate and colour depth? 1024x768, 85hz, 32 bit Thanks, Rap.Try using a program such as WinDVD to see if the problem still occurs. You may be able to DOWNLOAD a trial version. What version of Windows Media Player are you using? |
