Hi

I have an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe MOTHERBOARD and it don't work Don't care!

it uses the promise 20378 Raid controller

Do care about the 300GB Raid 1 Array on it with my life on it (good time to call me sad)

Can i remove the disk and just connect it via ATA? Can I use my promise Fast Trak100 TX2 controller with the PDC20270 Chip?

Gonna do a YOUTUBE of the thing (MB) on fire once this is over.RAID setup and no backup?Wow are all you posts this good? Must have taken a while!I've never attempted to switch a drive from RAID to SATA, mostly because I've not had one mess up on me, but in theory you shoudl be alright plugging it in a different method.. The worst that would HAPPEN as long as you're careful and don't drop the HDD or anything is that the drive simply won't pick up.

I'm pretty positive the data on the drive won't be lost only because you plug it in a different way. Might RUN slower though.Because raid 1 is mirroring, exactly the same data is on both drives. You should be able to remove one drive and connect it to ATA without problems. You should also still be able to boot the machine. The raid controller will warn you that one drive is not functioning and give you options to enter the raid setup or continue booting. The problem might be that if you modify the data on the drive, then later want it back in the raid, you "could" lose the modified data. If you CHANGE raid controllers, be sure to completely uninstall the existing raid drivers before installing drivers for the new controller (unless the drivers are mutually compatible). Some Promise drivers work with a "family" of controllers.
