Answer»
Please Help me and my Granddaughter.
I am using a canon pixma ip4300 printer which i use only for printing
photos also i have a canon mp220 used for SCANNING,copy and printing.
both printers are USB connected, unfortunately i had to disconnect both
printers from my computer and this is where the problem started.when
i connect the printer USB cable to my computer all WORKS well until
i turn the printer on, at this point my computer will freeze and there
is no way out but to shut down. i am using USB 2.0 cables to connect
to same on computer.i think i should mention i have 3 USB on the front
of computer and 2 at the rear.i have tried connecting each printer in
the 3 front USB's.also i am unable to use USB flash drives as this
also freezes the computer. BUT i also have a USB navigate which i
can connect and recharge without any problems.I have checked device
manager for any problems but all is well.I dont RECEIVE any error
messages.sorry for the lack of information but i am not good at fixing computers.

OK i am using windows xp home edition,
i have tried to reinstall printer drivers but the problem is i need
to turn the printers on to do this, thus the computer will freeze.
i have done a full system scan for any NASTIES but none were found.
i have searched USB troubleshooting but found nothing relating to my problem
i have done all the basic things to try and solve the problem and i am now at
the point where i feel the only thing to try is reformatting. other then that
maybe i should just give my PC a good clip around the ears .....ha ha.

oh i have tested the USB cables and both ok,both printers are almost new and work good on friends pc

I had both printers connected to the front before all this happened. In Device Manager items listed are

Universal Serial Bus Controllers
SIS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
SIS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
SIS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
SIS PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

The last activity i did before disconnecting the printers was
converting Quicktime home video's to AVI files to open with Real Player.

As for reformatting that option is now out of the question as i am unable to copy photos to disc, so now they are stuck in this box for ever.

I really need help with this problem as the photos are of my 7 year old beautiful Granddaughter who has severe disabilities. Her whole life from the moment she was born has been captured on film and photos and the one thing that gives her pleasure is having her picture taken and watching herself come out of the box. These photos are very precious and cant be replaced.

Thank you in advance........Mumma
A quick fix would be to remove the hard drive from the problem computer and hook it to a working computer, then copy your photos to the working computer. I know it doesn't solve the problem but at least you'll have your pictures. If you do that then you will be free to 'experiment' to get your problem system fixed.

PS- this is a good lesson in learning to back things up before a problem occurs. Ok I have retrieved all pictures from my computer after sitting up all night I also ran PC DOCTOR ,it informed me that every test passed. I did a destructive recovery but the problem is still there.
How is it POSSIBLE that I am able to connect things like Ipod Nano and Navman to recharge them without any probs, the way I see it these things are drawing out from the computer as apposed to the printers and USB flash that need to communicate both ways with the computer. Doe's that make sense or am i just to tied to make sense. I have contacted Canon and at this point they seem to think that it's a windows ,computer problem. Please help Me help Jessy
