Solve : Please Laptop won't start no lights?

Answer»

Hi. I have an Advent laptop. At first there was many beeps on startup but the laptop would start...now nothing no lights no start up "DEAD". I initially thought POWER supply, but would I get beeps from the laptop if a power supply was failing?

Is it possible to test a laptop power supply and how?  (oh by the way the power supply green light is on)

My 2nd guess is the mobo, if this is the case i am going to dump it as the machine is over three years old
I would really appreciate any help on this and thanks to all that read this thread. I am afraid that is all the info I can give at this time.

Regards
chris Remove the battery. Press and hold the power switch down for 10 seconds. With the battery removed and all peripherals unplugged, power on with the power adapter CONNECTED.

To test the power adapter, you can use a multimeter or volt meter to see if there is VOLTAGE present (≈12 vdc) when reading across the 'inside' and 'outside' of the round adapter plug while the adapter is connected to the main power supply.ok and thanks for the prompt reply. I will have to invest in a MULTI meter. I have tried to power on with battery removed the verdict is: its still dead. Any other help please

ChrisThe ac adapter would not make your computer beep. More likely our mobo is fried. buy your can try to remove your cdrom/dvdrom,ram,hdd and keyboard(use the service manual at your manufacturers website).  after removing these turn your computer back on. If it turns on the add those devices that you remove one at a time until it gives you back the same problem. Obviously the last device that you added is the one causing the problem. But if it doesnt turn on after removing all those devices mobo problem.

If that still doesnt work well its your mobo. That beeping sound isnt a GOOD sign, usually computers beep once or twice more than that more likely a HW problem. Quote from: ash41 on July 28, 2008, 12:07:41 PM

Try removing and re-seating the RAM. If you have 2 sticks, try removing one module and boot. Repeat with the other module.ok great fellas. Listen please: I just did what you said and took out HD and ram guess what I got a post it said obviously that the operating system could not be found, i know the HD works i tested it earlier. So it must be ram Am i correct >?? this is getting exciting now. Thanks again.Let us know how you make out.ok will do. I am just gonna take out ram in my sons machine as it matches and run it thenok to end this post it was in fact a faulty DDR2 memory module. The laptop is running good and my son is a gig short of ram. I can't understand why there were no lights on the fascia but these things are sent to try us "as they say" Ok a big thanks to you guys I wouldn't have been able to do it without you.

Special Regards
ChrisBest of luck!
