Solve : Pondering upgranding my Cpu or Graphics card...?

Answer»

so i have an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ ClawHammer 2.4GHz Socket 939 and a Radeon X850PRO 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16( i have the *censored* version the overheats but thats ANOTHER story involving 19 fans and 5 mem coolers)

my main goal is to keep my system up to DATE for up coming games...i was thinking my card was becoming dated, but then someone said i might want to consider a CPU upgrade (socket 939) JMedieval 2 total war is coming out which is hard on both CPU and graphics...which should i upgrade???

or would you reccomend both... or do you think im good for another year...im just trying to get other opinionsyou are in the clear for graphics, though what is your ram? the processor will survive for now, but you might want to upgrade if you are a hardcore gamer. with the info you have given, lou look FINE for a year or so.two gigs of ramBlinking heck bags, you're computer is better than mine, and thinking of upgrading? But yes, your RAM might be a bottleneck... upgrade it if it's only a gig Quote

Alright..

You have the Athlon 64 4000+ @ 2.4Ghz and an X850 Pro with an R480 core.

1. Buying a new CPU is not a good idea because that CPU would have to be socket 939.
2. You CPU is NOT a bottleneck in any way and since u already have a PCI-e x16 slot, there is no need to buy a new motherboard.
4. You can OVERCLOCK ur CPU to 2.6Ghz and above to have even better perfomance in games. For this u will have to buy a cooler such as the Zalman CNPS 9500.
3. You dont need to upgrade ur graphics card, because ur lucky enough to have the R480 core.
Your card - the X850 Pro has only 12 pipelines, while the more expensive X850XT has 16 cores.
Both cards share the same core and u can UNLOCK the pipelines on the X850 Pro, giving u the performance of the X850XT! Search GOOGLE for ways to unlock the X850 Pro, its very simple.

If u want better performance in games the thing u have to think abt is the graphics card. It matters abt 100 times more than ur CPU. The CPU dosent even give u better frame RATES, it can only give u worse ones if its old.
This means that u should upgrade ur graphics card if u want to have better performance.
Another thing that would inhance ur performance is having 2GB of RAM, wich u already have.

So this means that u do NOT need to upgrade anything.

On top of this, u should buy the Zalman VF900 graphics card cooler for 20$. It is the best cooler on earth and can give u far better temperatures and more room to overclock, even though the card has a 130nm process so it cant overclock very much.well thanks....i now know muhc more about my system than before...thanks
