I am using a 780i SLI motherboard, e eforce 6200le video card, Intel core 2 extreme 9650 processor corsair memory and a 500W power supply. When I boot the system for the first time I can get to the BOIS setup and then power dies everyewhere but the mother board (i still see the mother board LEDS are on). I have replaced the mother board already so this is not the problem. Could this be the power supply? Please help...It could be...
It could also be shutting down from overheating to protect itself...
Did you apply Thermal Paste when assembling the CPU/heatsink COMBO ? ?

It could also be the board shorting out...did you use all the MBoard standoffs when assembling the MBoard into the case ? ?

Have you done this before ? ?yes all the MOBO standoffs are in place and thermal paste was APPLIED when the CPU was put in place. IT will only power on for 10 or 15 seconds. I get a floppy disk fail...but can continue to the BOIS screen setup...This is my first PC build. I have several freinds that have built PC's before. They are stumped as well.do you have a floppy PLUGGED in? If so unplug it and see what happensI have a DVD RW installed. I UNPLUGGED it and it is powered on....over a minute now...looks like this resolves the problem...but now no DVD...Could the PSU be to small (500w)opps spoke to soon...power dies againLeave the DVD unhooked for now.
Borrow a known good PSU from one of your friends of the same or greater wattage and swap it in there to see what happens...
What brand was this PSU ?
I hope it wasn't a twenty dollar special...

And Congrats on your first build...don't sweat it we'll get you there.PSU came with the Chasis. ANTEC...Chasis was over over $150. I will purchase a better PSU today and swap it out. I am also going to swap out the CPU fan (this was a $20 special). Appreciate all the help. Thanks!This is why i suggest borrowing a PSU first...if it's not the problem you have spent money for nothing...
There are other things that can cause this symptom as well.
