Solve : Power problems?

Answer»

Just built a new computer. Everything seemed to be going WELL, I installed Windows 7 and all necessary drivers. Within a couple of minutes of being in the desktop the computer cut out completely. I tried resetting it but the power button would not come on at all even after pressing the button.

However, the LED's on the motherboard still light up so power is still running through the motherboard, but the system will not power up at all when I press the button. So none of the components will power up or the fans will not come on, but the green LED on the motherboard still LIGHTS up so the motherboard has power running through it.

I can't think what the problem was as everything was working initially. I've checked that all the wires are sucrely in place, I'm wandering whether the motherboard could have shorted? Thanks!

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 (LE)
Intel I5 2400 Processor
GPU: Nvidia GTS450
4GB DDR RAM
PSU: Corsair CX600I would swap power supplies first, because it can still be a power supply issue even though you see lit led's. If that doesnt correct problem, then I'd say you may have a motherboard issue directly related to the soft-power on feature that your push button triggers, in which you may be replacing the motherboard. It is strange though that you would have had it running LONG enough to install win 7 and then have it crap out at the desktop. At least it didnt do like my college project computer in which I built it with the cheapest barebone new GUTS I could buy and on 3rd power up I had a pop and white cloud of smoke blowing out the back of the power supply as for the no name chinese power supply failed and blew a large electrolytic capacitor making a rotten fish stench in my home which my wife enjoyed ...ha haYeah I would try that but I don't have a spare PSU to hand.

I've been considering if it could be the soft power button but as the system cut out while using it this shouldn't be a problem? I'll try fiddling around with it and see what can I do..

Very frustrating when I just want to try out a new computer and to think I've almost got there! This is a reasonable quality computer though with (apparently) well manufactured parts.

Thanks for your help!
