Answer» As a few of might remember, I was having trouble with powering up an old eMachines W2247 (see here). I went ahead and hooked the HDD in another computer, BACKED everything up, and formatted the drive.
I then returned the HDD and replaced the eMachines PSU with one from another computer, thinking that would get the eMachines running again. However, even with this other PSU, I'm still getting the EXACT same booting problem as mentioned in my other thread. So...does anyone know what else might be wrong? Bad motherboard maybe?First thing to do is strip the system to only the mb/RAM/video / boot / does it POST / if so, then add the keyboard / repeat process until you have everything that is normally connected. It's a process of elimination. PITA...but necessary.
Good luck

But i agree with Alan. <>Did you find anything new on this or is it time to buy another mobo that fits. This is a uBTX CONFIG and I can't find any mfg who makes them anymore. Gateway DROPPED them completely and support too. Looks like anthor door stop ! Suggestions please! BillBA similar problem can be caused if the ram settings are set wrong, if you have reset the cmos / bios settings by the onboard jumper or remove then refit the small battery or replace it altogether, it will clear the wrong setting from the cmos/bios. if you have a voltmeter you could do a small check on the power supply unit, ther are four wires in the molex connector the yellow is 12v and the red is 5v the TWO black in between of course are the earth wires. try a boot up and when the fans run test the molex one on yellow one on black see if you are getting any power from the rails. In particular, on Emachines, I've seen the PSU take out the motherboard along with other components. What I usually do is replace BOTH the mobo & PSU.
Another thing you can try is to "bench" the motherboard. Take it out of the case and set it on something non-conductive. Hook up the power supply with only the RAM, video card & keyboard. You then have to 'short' the start pins in the mobo to get it to start.
Good luck
