Solve : Power Question: from USA to Germany?

Answer»

I'm MOVING from the United States to Germany in one month, and I'll be taking my desktop PC with me. Right now it's set to 110 on the red switch on the back of my 550w power supply, and im using the standard '2 prong 1 ground' cable to connect the power to my surge protector.

In Germany, they use totally DIFFERENT plug-in prongs and wall jacks, and I'm pretty sure they use a different power output as well. My fiance' is from Germany and while here in the states she had a cellphone charger with her and the plugin was very different from what I'm used to seeing, because it was made to fit German wall jacks. She had to use an adaptor she bought to make it fit the jacks here at my house.

I have a theory I'll need to pop over my red switch from 110 to 220 and I could use an adaptor or buy a new power cable while in Germany for my 550w PSU.. but I don't know for sure.. that's why I'm here.

So in a nutshell.. does anyone know for sure what I must do to make my American-style power supply unit work with German wall jacks? I'm hoping I won;t have to buy a whole new PSU

You got it.Key >> "Auto Switching PSU"
check mfg web-page and see if your psu will do this, most do....

the PSU should be auto switching between 115V/230V and 50-60Hz, most, but not all are, it's always a good thing to check the distributors web site
probably going to have to get a new wall plug over there in Europe , easy to find and use....they LOOK like the kind of plug a dryer would have in the states to the wallQuote from: honvetops on April 14, 2007, 05:04:21 AM

It seems pretty clear his PSU does not do this. That's why it has a red switch on back to switch from 110 to 220.
