Solve : Power supply overheating problem??

Answer»

Hi!

Is it possible that my CPU is overheating a bit (10 to 15 degrees over normal condition) because of my power supply is overheating  as well ? ( because the  fan of it looks obstructed by smoking and cat hair)

How can i remove dust hairball from the P.S. fan ?

I cannot open it and then i don't want to push the dust in the power supply case by using aircan and i don't even have a battery vaccum cleaner on hand.

Any idea?
:-/GET a quetip, and dip it in rubbing alcohol. Now brush away the dust etc. Or just use tweasers for hairballs.

Ok...but it will fall in the metal case of the P.S. ?

Do i have to worry about it or not?

Thanks!

ok... Use tweasers to remove the hairballs first... Then, use the alcohol and quetip to remove dust... It's like a magnet. Unless something blows the dust, it is not likely that the dust will fly around...

[glb]Flame[/glb]The following ARTICLE will help you determine how to clean your computer hardware:

Information about cleaning computer components.

You should look into fanless cooling. These cooling solutions are more expensive, but dust and other impurities should PROOF to be far less of a problem to a heatsink than it does to a fan. Quote

So simple...i hate not to have taught about it by myself! lol!

Thank you both!Ah ok. Well, come on back if you have any more QUESTIONS!

the problems with a psu fan.....it draws air in and also dust.....the makers should have reverse this process.....heat out //dust out...MAYBE a polarity change would sort it...ideas in action.....place pc on the floor.......the air is cooler there? Quote

That sounds like a genious idea...but is it technically possible?

Such modification would result in fans that require more power to do their work as they would need to draw heated air out as opposed to blowing cooled air in. So they would need to revolve faster to create a stronger airstream.

More power would mean more RPM, more RPM would mean more wear and tear. Plus, the amount of noise would increase considerably.

But if Merlin is up for a little experiment.. Let us know how it worked out.
