Solve : Power supply problem.?

Answer»

Ok this may sound a bit strange but bare with me.

My power supply has the twenty four pin connector that splits off and becomes a 20 pin connector for the main power for the motherboard. Now the 4 pin connector was ruined and is no longer usable. My motherboard takes the 24 pin and the 4 pin atx connectors separatly. I tried connecting just the 20 pin connector to the motherboard and the CPU fan does not function and i get nothing on the display. I assume the motherboard just isn't getting enough power.

Here is my question: Since my motherboard only uses 4 pins for the second ATX power connection and not 8 can i use the extra 4 pins (my power supply has the 8 pin connect that can be split as well.) to connect to the 20 pin connector and make up for the ruined 4 pin connector??

Thanks for checking this out and helping me, guys.no would be the answer they have different VOLTAGES to the different connectors. Without knowing the make and model of the PSU and how the pin alignments are advice would be dangerous at this point...Quote from: TehGerg on June 26, 2007, 02:56:13 PM

Dang. I was really hoping i could AVOID having to buy a new power supply.Quote from: patio on June 26, 2007, 02:56:56 PM

So it could be possible?

I will find this info out when i get home tonight.I haven't seen any power supply's with two of that kind of 4 pin but i have been wrong before.
Look on the power supply itself there will be a label with the manufacture and the model number. post that up here and we will figure it out from there.Quote from: kevdawg on June 26, 2007, 02:38:57 PM

Answer is NO. Two reasons:

1. The connectors for both sets of the extra 4-pin connectors are NOT made for the 24 pin slot on the motherboard

2. I checked the AWG and the voltage of each pin and they do not match.

Thanks guys a ton for the help even if you helped me get my mind thinking of the solution!
