Answer» Hi! I recently got a new graphics card, the Sapphire RX 5700 XT, and upon install my computer will not boot up.
The fans and LEDs run both in the case and for my CPU/GPU, but there is no display on my monitor. My power SUPPLY is an EVGA 500W Bronze and I think this may be the issue as the new graphics card recommends 600W. Obviously, I considered this but I had read that those estimates usually run high and my PC doesn't use much power elsewhere. (Naive, I'm guessing)
I can get a new power supply tomorrow, but I wanted to verify that the computer could be receiving enough power to run fans without being able to boot up. Otherwise, I have a series of rabbit-holes to lose myself in order to find a solution.
Thanks for sharing your expertise, as I welcome it!If you can BORROW a known good PSU of 600w or better and swap it in there to test you will know without buying 1 to find out...
P.S. if the card recommends 600 you need 600.
Make sure you have all the PSU cables connected correctly and they are FULLY seated, especially if the GPU requires additional power cables.
You do need to upgrade your power supply but it is doubtful that the wattage difference would cause your computer to fail to boot. Too small of a power supply will manifest itself in other ways such as unexpected shutdowns, poor performance, early PSU failure and such. The EVGA 500W Bronze probably puts out APPROX 375W...not exactly a quality unit.
