Answer» does power surge affects my computer's performance?? If you do not have a "surge protector" it most certainly can. Has it? truenorth Quote from: prince_tamtam on January 24, 2010, 02:10:47 AM does power surge affects my computer's performance??Yes. And there are no easy and cheap ways to prevent this. You may have to get a whole new computer. It won't effect "performance" as such, but it can damage a component and prevent the system from working properly or booting at all.I would suggest that if the computer gets zapped the performance of it will definitely suffer.truenorthFair enough You should always have a GOOD surge protector, not all things sold as "surge protectors" are really any good. You get what you pay for. Preferably you should have a UPS. The COST of a good ups may go over the price of a new computer.I installed a $40,000 UPS once, but the UPS I'm using on my computer was under $100. Small price compared to what damage a surge can do. To me surge protection is the MAIN purpose of a UPS, but it's nice to keep everything running for small power outages. For personal use you really don't need a UPS that can keep everything up for hours. My batteries are getting old and need to be replaced, but it still RUNS for 5 to 10 minutes, which is USUALLY enough time to avoid most power outages around here. For a business, it's a DIFFERENT story. A UPS is needed to back up not only computers but phone systems, etc. |
