Solve : Power surge problem?

Answer»

Last NIGHT we had a power surge that shut off my computer and power strip. Now when i start my computer it says Overclock is failed HIT Del to enter BIOS but my USB mouse and keyboard aren't responding. So I plugged in a PS/2 keyboard and still not working. So i was thinking maybe it fried my mobo maybe?

vista 32bitI'm sorry to say but you MAY be in a whole mess of problems now. A buddy of mine had a power surge with his.. Ended up frying his power supply, some of his RAM, harddrives and cd drive (I want to say mobo as well). Your going to have to find a way to test all your components.
That really stinks.. You should invest in a UPS. Might want to check with your powerstrip. Some of them have surge protectors on them and back it with a warranty. I know my UPS's states im covered up to $100k.

MacKIf I'm not mistaken overclock deals with your HD, or how hard you are making the Harddrive work.overclock is overclocking your cpu to run at higher frequinces did you overclock at all?? it does sound LIKE it could be the motherboard though could also be the psu it could be a lot of thingsUnplug the machine.
Remove a side panel and make SURE to touch the case to ground yourself.
Remove the CMOS battery from the MBoard...about the size of a dime.
While it's out hit the power button a few times to dissipate any stored energy.
After 10 minutes replace the battery...leave the side panel off for now.
Hook up the power and power up and see what happens...
