Answer» I have a spare computer (Compaq Presario) that we got from my in-laws and when i turn it on I get a blue box in the middle of the screen that SAYS "power up password" and asks for the password (it also has a key icon) each time i PRESS enter it gives me {key X an icon that looks like a very simple table} I've never seen this before, the only keystrokes that do anything are enter, which just makes the key and “table” icon appear a second and third time. The only other thing is control-alt-delete, which causes it to reboot, and the same MESSAGE appears all over again. Help!!Desktop or Laptop ? Have you contacted them for the password ?A desktop, and no i havent contacted the manufacturer , i'll try that tonight!! THANKSI meant the In-Laws...haha yes i have and they are clueless as to what that even is lol yeah well if they absolutely can't remember and the manufacturer can't help you out then you can try re-setting the CMOS. You do that by removing all power to the unit, removing the clock battery, and depending on the model, also switching a specific jumper on the motherboard.
How old is the Presario?probably around 5 yrs old if i had to guess once i remove the cover (I assume) remove the clock battery and then the jumper switch on the motherboard.... Ok i guess ill have to go home and look at it then get back to you guys. Thanks for the help. I will need to write further cuz i have no idea where this stuff is Sorry im so inept
Part # CR 2032...available at any computer store and most Wally Worlds.
Be sure to be careful removing it as the SPRING loaded clip can break easily.....and as always when working inside the case remove all power sources first and take anti-static precautions...
